Varies on useage and care.  Soap at a sink used several times a day may only last a month VS a soap in the shower used once a day may last several months. To extend the life, use a tray with drainage.  You don't want your soap sitting in water when not in use

There is no expiration date however with the time the scent fades. 

You can't make real soap without lye.  However, when the chemical reaction of making soap, called saponification, is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap.  Therefore the product you are purchasing no lye remains.
